Several thousand years!

It can take anywhere from seventy-five years to seventy-five thousand years or more for plastic to decompose. It really depends on the kind of plastic (and even the kind of environment it is exposed to) and if it's specially designed to decompose in the environment faster. Plastic typically decomposes slowly because the chemical bonds are far stronger than what nature (or the micro-organisms in the soil) can generally break apart.

Generally it takes about as long as it takes for the compounds themselves to weaken and then break down.
Please recycle and save plastics when possible.
