haha, I haven't heard "macromedia" in a while. Adobe actually bought out the company back in 2005 and the the full title of the program you mentioned is now Adobe Fireworks.

But ya, Fireworks is really the shining animation program of today. Others might include Adobe Photoshop, GIMP, or Adobe ImageReady if you're able to get your hands on it (bit old).

GIMP being the free one.

How do you create an animated .gif image in the first place, might I ask?

The only experience I have is through Photoshop and there you create it in frames. Say I want to move an object from one side of the screen to the other. With photoshop I can place the object where I want it and make a frame. Then I can say where I want it when it's done and make a second frame. With photoshop I can command it to make so many frames in between to make the transaction smooth.

However, I believe there are more advanced programs, such as Adobe Fireworks, that refrain from using frames and attempt more professional methods.
