What cars are the best to buy used?

I hate to even say it during these tough economic times... But a foreign car is always the best to buy used. A Honda or Toyota they say is the best to buy used... but buy any used foreign car over any used American car any day.

Older Nissans are pretty easy to work on, though they don't require much. Mainly oil and gas. Mid nineties and down I'd say. Plenty in junkyard to pillage from though too.

According to Consumer Reports the best used cars to buy on average for 2008 were Acura, Honda, Lexus and Subaru but by far Toyota's.

I have a Toyota and I've driven a Honda. I actually preferred the way my Toyota drives... something about the suspension and the power steering that is just more smooth. That's comparing a 98 Toyota Camry to a 2000 Honda Accord so... the newer ones are probably different.

Both of them last a long time as long as you keep the oil changed. =] My Camry has the original timing belt and it now has 155k miles. Which I know is bad, but I just got the car from my parents and they never changed it. I'm looking into that. =]]

But yes, what Pay Attention said is true. Older Nissans are easy to work on. My boyfriend's brother has a 89 Max and it's a fairly simple foreign engine.

But the Honda my boyfriend bought (that's the Honda I drove to compare) ended up having a messed up transmission. The guy that had it before him would speed up and pull the emergency brake. That will mess up any car. Just be sure to test drive any car and know your state's lemon laws. =]
