Is it safe to pluck the keys off my laptop keyboard?

Parasyte: There's some stuff under them, making hard to press some of them (particularly, the 'y' key), so I'd like to take them off and clean it.

I take off mine all the time but you shouldn't if they aren't attached with clips or cannot come up easily.

Yeah mine aren't too sturdy. Two weeks into having a new laptop I threw a dog toy too close to my laptop and Kenbo's dog jumped on the keyboard and ripped a key off. It ripped so hard that it destroyed the latch thing as well. So it is possible to take it off and break it. Sucks to be one key-less.

Its not really that bad to rip them off.

The keyboard still works without them.

The only bad thing is that whilst doing that, it wears down the mechanisms that hold it down and the keys can break.

Then you have to find alternate methods to replace the key or just do without.
