Why dont slugs really have shells?Little Miss Curious: I always thought they did, theyre always illustrated that way. Then I saw one on my sidewalk today and hit it me that Ive never seen a slug with a shell. |

Many slugs have a tiny shell, or even nascent internal shells. As to the why, slugs are able to squeeze into more places that may have moisture than a snail would be able to. This flexibility allows slugs to colonize places that a snail cannot. |
