Why is my laptop randomly shutting down?

Deviant Audio: It has done it several times today, and has done it in the past, albeit less frequently.

Is it an old laptop? Sometimes, just being old can cause these problems.
And try leaving it plugged in, this may be a battery problem.

I have had it for just over a year. It almost constantly plugged in.

Hm... Now, is it crashing, going black, BSoD, or something like someone had hit the shut off button?

Completely shutting itself down. No blue screen of death or anything like that, thankfully. It was giving me grief to turn back on, so I took the battery out and put it back. I changed the power setting to "power saver" earlier and it has not done it since, but I do not know why that would be such a problem suddenly.

I would take it to a computer store, if it continues happening.

Maybe its not fully charged?

Your fan could be toast.

Aye, I'm willing to bet the fan. Sounds like your laptop is overheating and continually shutting down to prevent physical damage. Also, if it's a fan, it's an easy fix.

You are probably correct, as when I set it to another power setting, it gets very hot.
