Is there a difference between saving a file as .htm and .html?

Parasyte: I don't think there is.

Really there isn't any difference that you need to worry about these days. Both extensions will be found online via Google Search and the like, and both work perfectly fine for your sites. As far as I know, however, the general home page for a site (index) is a .html for whatever reason. The sad part is that my teacher explained a little more in depth to me during my web design class but I've completely forgotten now.

Nope, there is no difference between the two. Personal preference is usually used in this matter. Personally I prefer to use .htm and I do see it more on the web than .html (which to me looks messy).

the difference is the fractional size variance cause by the extra l in the name.

Its the same thing otherwise.
