How can I fix this keyboard?

Parasyte: Okay, so I stole a keyboard from my brother, and I really like it, except for the fact that the "Z" "N" and "space" keys don't work.
I tried cleaning under the keys, but that didn't fix it.
Is there any way I can fix it?

Don't use it? Your current one sounds pretty fine. :)

Well, this other one has a lot of cool features, like a screen which displays the time and stuff, it's got a volume changer, and a whole ton of macro keys.

Take out the keys and check the connectors where you actually depress the keys. There's the possibility that there's been damage to the connectors that prevent the keys from working.

I don't think there's any damage. All the working keys look exactly like the non-working keys.

Here's something... I under the space key I found a hole to the rubber membrane, where the button is. I tried poking at the hole, and it still didn't work, so it's probably not a hardware problem at all.

This may sound crazy and I have never tried this but a buddy of mine claimed that he ran his keyboard through the dishwasher. You would have to let it dry out before using it but he claimed it worked great.

I may try that, but I'm afraid it'll mess up the screen.

As far as I know, that only works with certain kinds of keyboards that advertise that.

I've actually soaked one of my keyboards with a Windex and water solution. I didn't emerge it... but it was pretty soaked.

Here's what you do, clean it liberally with Windex and water. Then flip the keyboard over (the non key side) and remove all the screws. You should see a thin, plastic film with a metal web (I think it's some kind of gold alloy). Take that out, and notice that it is more than one page of plastic.

Make sure that there is NO WATER/Windex/crap between the pages, that will keep it from making a good connection.

I tried removing the screws, but even after that it's built so that I can't open it up.

Oh geez, that sucks. I took apart an older HP keyboard and that worked fine. I'm assuming it has more screws that are a specific design by the manufacturer that can't be unscrewed?

I don't think so. It just had a piece covering the seam, that was difficult to get off.

So are you saying you were able to finally get to the web, plastic stuff I was talking about?

No, I was never able to get to it. But one thing I did notice, was that I was able to see the rubber membrane under the broken space key, and it didn't seem to be any different from the rubber membrane under a working key.

Hmm... if you know the brand, you should try Google searching it and see if there are any tutorials. I can't really help you further without having the keyboard in front of me. =[ Sorry.

I tried, there was nothing on it. It's gotta be a programming problem.

Well that sucks. I'm sorry I couldn't help you.

Like I said,I haven't tried it personally.Sounds like Peep knows whats up.I just thought it was funny that this guy put his keyboard in the dishwasher.Of course he could probably just buy a new one if it didn't. Oh,I just saw your comment about the screen.Yeah, don't put it in the washer.
