Whats the reasoning for the qwerty Keyboard layout?

The one you are probably typing on. How they have the top row as QWERTUIOP, next row ASDFGHJKL, and final row ZXCVBNM. ;)

Maybe because the "home row" keys are the most common letters? Not sure about that though.

It has to do with convenience with accessing particular letters when typing.

I believe it is based on the likelihood of a word in the English language using them. And common combinations of said words and ease of use.

If you look just above your left hands home row what do the letters above it spell out? qwerty... and they are full keyboards on phones =].

I find it more convenient to have a qwerty keyboard... I can text much faster than with a regular phones t9 text.

I have just a regular phone keypad, which I like a lot better than a full keyboard.


Because early typewriters would jam if the typist went to fast. The qwerty keyboard was introduced to slow down the typist.
As typewriting machines improved the slow keyboard remained the same.
