How does an electric guitar produce sound?

Electric guitars utilize pick-ups to create an audio signal, which when sent through a 1/4” cable to an amplifier, creates the sounds we hear. This signal travels through the preamp circuitry of an amplifier which is what gives the sound its major tonal voice. Hence the reason for multiple amplifier models and companies.

The pick-ups themselves come in different varieties and flavors, but are ideally the same concept. You’re given one pole piece per string, all set into a magnet. This magnet is then coiled in wire to create a magnetic field. Each pole piece detects the magnetic signal produced from string vibration.

As a result, electric guitar strings need to be composed or wound in a magnetically charged metal, such as nickel.

To further elaborate: pickups register the magnetic disturbances created when guitar strings vibrate, and then send it to the amplifier, as stated above.

the strings vibration are picked up in the magnetic field of the pickup the signal is sent through the 1/4 cable to the
amplifer were it goes through the preamp section which is were the volume and tone controles are used to alter the sound the powerramp section creates the high wattage to output the sound through the speakers. the air displacement of the vibrating speakers cane is were the sound is reproduced.
