Can you put cardboard in the oven?

bobbonew: I'm going to cook a pizza and all the directions say is unwrap pizza and put directly on the rack in the over. That's it. Its wrapped in plastic, but has cardboard under it. Do I put the pizza + cardboard on the rack in the oven, or just the pizza itself?

So confusing. I don't think the cardboard would light on fire but I have no clue.

Paper and cardboard won't burn below a temperature of 450 degrees Fahrenheit.

Personally I'd ditch the cardboard and put it on a cookie baking sheet or something. You can even set it straight on the rack, but that makes it harder to get out.

I can say from personal experience, don't put cardboard in the oven. I was pre-heating my oven once and there was a pizza box in there for some god-forsaken reason.

Needless to say, when I came back half an hour later (blame Final Fantasy 11) the kitchen was filled with smoke and the house smelled horribly for at least 2 weeks.

edit: this was at 400 degrees.

No, you're supposed to take the cardboard off. It could catch fire.

Most pizza is cooked between 375 and 415 in a personal home oven, meaning it should be fine.

At Pizza Hut our industrial ovens were pushing 500 to produce pizzas faster, but most home ovens won't even reach that. As long as you're not broiling the cardboard, it should be fine. Get it wet if you really want to be safe.

This is funny. I remember a while back I wanted to cook a frozen pizza in the oven, so I got a wood cutting board ( http://www.acemart.com/renderImage.image?imageName=graphics/00000001/products/BOO214.jpg ) and sprayed it with Pam Cooking Spray and put my pizza on it and cooked it. I think I set my oven at 425 degrees.

Long story short, nothing caught on fire and the actual pizza cooked perfectly. (very tasty) But I got yelled at by my mom when she found out that I put wood in the oven, haha.

I prefer to put the pizza directly on the rack because it makes everything nice and crispy instead of soggy and not crunchy :(

(california kitchen thin crust = YUM!)

What temperature would work to bake the pizza, after it was accidentally baked at (400 degrees for 23 mins.) with the cardboard still under it?? Agh! :( I forgot to take it off prior... the dough is uncooked, yet the crust and toppings are already crispy and ready.

Put the pizza back on the sheet without the cardboard cut the pizza separate slices slightly then put on lowest rack for an additional 10 min. while watching it closely as to keep it from over cooking past your liking. :)
