This question is infinitely unanswerable with a right answer. This is because we can tell that certain objects are moving away from us due to the Doppler effect, but this isn't exactly undeniable proof of anything. All we can do is apply what we observe to theories which can not be proven with our current resources. Even with out current theories, there could have been/could be billions if not more different "Big Bangs". Currently we don't really even have an idea of what our Universe is. I guess you could say that our current guesses are shots in the dark.

The rate of expansion of the universe is given by the Hubble constant (Ho), which is about 70 to 75 km/s/MP (kilometres per second per megaparsec) where a parsec is 3.26 light years. This means that the bits of the universe further away from us are going away from us faster than the bits closer to us. We're not quite sure of the exact value of the Hubble constant or even how constant it has been since the birth of the universe, but 70 - 75 km/s/MP is the current thinking of it.

Just looking to see if in general the universe is cooling from the big bang?
