Is it true that a DNA test can prove a child's future athletic abilities?

Kenbo: I think this is a bunch of crap.

I think it could give hints to certain advantages, but I don't think it could tell much more than that. I'm sure they can run tests to find certain traits that have been known to enhance certain athletic qualities, which is probably what they are getting at.

Well, considering a child's DNA is merely half of both of the parents DNA, you really would not require a test to see the possibility of what your child's abilities would be. If both of the adults are not good athletes, then I would not expect a superstar. However, if both the mother and father were competent at sports, then the child is more likely to possess some inherited skill.

The biggest factor, I think, is not in DNA, but the development of a child from birth. As long as a proper diet and regular exercise occur, along with praise from the parents, it will at least create the correct environment for a athletic child to grow up in.

I believe in the spontaneity of the child's outcome. Just because their parents aren't athletically inclined, doesn't mean the child won't show an interest/talent in sports.
