Do people still use public libraries?

bobbonew: Sorry to say but I haven't been to one in ages; you can pretty much use the internet for anything. I do read books, I just buy what I really want to read.

I actually used to use one all the time when I was at school. Read tonnes of free books. Also used to request ones I wanted in but it took ages! Book shops are now my prefered source (purely cause they have more range). But been meaning to join my new local sydney one for months now.

Sometimes I go in just to kill time or for local wifi access in a quiet, safe environment.
On the rare occasion I go in for a book, it's on a whim.

I haven't really used a library since middle school. With the rise of the internet, you can find articles and other research materials online, and download eBooks for free. Plus with sites like Amazon, Half, Ebay, and Abe.com, you can find almost any book or college textbook, mainstream or obscure, on the cheap, sent directly to your house. My own personal library has definitely expanded since I registered for a PayPal account!

Hehe, I live within walking distance of a library, but I haven't visited it in two years. My school's library is sadly the only one I've been to in the past few months. ;(

Definitely. I just got my library card for the public library in this area today.

Indeed. I love public libraries. I'm still in denial that printed word is being overrun by the internet.

I haven't been in a library in forever. That's kind of sad to admit.

I go to the campus library for reason of internet.

When I go to the US (or any other country out of South America for that matter...) I LOVE to check the libraries. They are huge and have books that I never expected to find, with completely original topics and such.
You guys should really visit those, specially if you have big ones. You never know what kind of gold you will find there.

I go about twice a month. A lot of books being published are rubbish, so why waste money buying and tossing them if the library already has the book?
