I don't think a free, easy animation program exists.

Artoonix has a totally free version in which almost all functions work. There is no timebomb and it's well worth looking at.

I heard Pivot is pretty good.

GIMP (gimp.org) should be able to get the job done for you if you are still interested in this.

Have a look at the CALICO MONKEY website. There is a page dedicated to free animation software. A couple of posts list lots of possibilities. Ones to look at are Pivot, Stykz, Artoonix (the free version), Easytoon, Alice (script-based), Creatoon (was commercial but is now freeware). Of those, Pivot is easy but very limited. Stykz is simlar, but has more options and is also not yet fully developed (and some of the forum members have a VERY ppor attitude). Easytoon is excellent but limited to moncohrome gif output. Artoonix has lots of good features and is easy to learn (excellent sound functions). Trickier but worth learning are Alice and Creatoon. There ARE good free programs out there if you care to search. I've not listed them all.
