Anyone think that if people spent the amount of time playing an actual guitar as they do guitar hero there would be a lot more guitarists in the world?

For sure. I personally don't care much for the game, and it doesn't teach you a thing about the real deal, but picking up a guitar and just strumming will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect from it, so it's easy enough to learn.
Remember, anyone can play guitar. Just not particularly well.

Most definitely. I think for the most part, way too many people pick up Guitar Hero or Rock Band because the learning curve is virtually non-existent and the fun factor is way up there to boot. As someone who does both I think that anyone who plays Guitar Hero or Rock Band should definitely look into getting to play the real guitar. If you can stick with it, it really pays off.

The only relation with a real guitar and guitar hero is the alternate picking patterns. The clicker on guitar hero goes up and down just as if you were strumming a real guitar with a pick. Other than that, it doesn't compare to a real guitar whatsoever. Alot of the songs on guitar hero/rock band are actually harder to play vs. a real guitar. Ironic.

I would like to confirm the above answers.

Also, being good at those stupid games does not make you a good guitarist, despite contrary belief.

Also, if you know the songs from that game well enough that you can play it without the game going, you really need to reconsider your life's goals.

Deviantstudio hit right on the nail. Playing a real guitar is completely different than playing a real guitar, and I can confirm you that because I have been playing guitar for two years and I like Guitar Hero games.

Actually I think playing guitar hero degrades your ability to play real instruments, music is almost mathematical and tends to be universal in brain activity, but guitar hero... you press a corresponding dot to color...

I think if people spent as much time trying to learn guitar as they did playing guitar hero, there would be a lot more people who hate the guitar because of how it works in your brain, esp if they expected the same thing to be occurring with the guitar.

Yes I do. With the amount of time people and myself have spent playing guitar hero, we could be playing real guitar. But, video games are easy and fun, playing a real guitar takes a lot of practice and determination. Not everyone has the skills to play real guitar. Video games are the easy way out for the lazy.
