Does anyone know about Anti Viruses?

(Guest): The other day i clicked something that popped up on my computer called Alpha Antivirus and ever since then it will not let me do anything. For example if i go to any web site it will direct me to a screen saying this page is infected by milicious advertising code. Even going to a site like questional. What the heck!! How do you try to get rid of that?

Try downloading Spybot Search&Destroy (be careful, not Spywarebot, JUST Spybot), and Avast antivirus.
Next time a popup like that does show up, disconnect from the internet, and close it. Then reconnect.

One of the most common misconceptions about virus protection is simply the more expensive it is the better. Not only is this false but there's a large market of virus software that don't match what's already free. Norton Virus Protection is one that gets a lot of shit for a lot of reasons.

AVG is one I've used frequently in the past. Free and works well!

Avast! is another choice you can choose that's free and works great.

It's really tough to just say "delete this, delete that" and be done with it.

If your computer has a serious infection, I recommend you download the following programs:

DrWeb Cureit
Malwarebytes Anti-Malware
ComboFix

Once you have all three programs, start your computer in Safe Mode and run Malwarebytes, followed by DrWeb Cureit (turn of heuristic analysis in the settings for DrWeb, it's just a waste of time), and after running those two, permanently delete everything in your recycling bin and run ComboFix.

Be weary though, because a very serious infection could end up ruining your computer after running ComboFix. It's a very powerful application and has potential to delete corrupted files that your computer needs to run. However, I have never had an issue with ComboFix in the past deleting anything necessary. That said, you should make sure you have a recovery disc and necessary files backed up to an external hard drive or flash drive.

You have a mac?

There are starting to be a lot of Viruses for Macs too. Kenbo must be like me: He knows what he is doing, and knows that antiviruses can be worse than viruses themselves sometimes.

I also use no antivirus and am running Windows. There's tons of virii out there for macs now that mac is becoming more favored again, it's not hard to avoid getting a virus.

These supposed anti-viruses pop up everywhere and are like viruses themselves. I have McAfee, but it is free. Yesterday, and anti virus pop-up claimed I was infected with hundreds of the viral beasties, but of course I really was not. The above freeware suggestions are said to be quite good.

Dagnabit! I did it again.

It is very likely that the "Alpha Antivirus" popup was in fact a virus.
