Do you think we should have a character limit for giving points to answers?

Moonrise: Should there be a minimum character count for certain answers to be given a point towards your profile? Considering there is an award for members with the most points in a month, it seems logical to at least have a "minimum threshold" for answers to be given points towards the contests. What do you all think?

This is something that is for sure coming ASAP. I'm not sure if some people answer questions because they know the answer, or if they want the points. It sucks it has to be added because every answer is valuable in my opinion, but "yes", "no" and one word answers are just not really what people look for when they ask questions.

I accrue points over the course of a month, and till Kenbo told me I won in August I just did not know.

However, one way to control an end of the month rush would be to limit answers to just one per minute.

I dont think yes or no questions should be allowed. Atleast add a why, or what do you really think..

It is implied that you should be explaining why you think so if your going to answer the question.

then why not say it? I don't know, Instead of protesting that way, I will just point it out. I'm sorry for bothering you.

This is questional. If I ask "Should I get my hair cut this way, or that way?" your response shouldn't be A or B. It should be A, because [insert why I think your hair should be styled A]

That's quite possibly the lamest "protest" I've ever seen. The logical solution would be to actually say something if it bothers you, instead of waiting until the last month of every day to spam the hell out of every question you can find so you can win the monthly contest. That's not a "protest", that's douchebaggery.

I don't see what's wrong with "yes" or "no" answers. If the question is "Can elephants run faster than chickens?" then there wouldn't be much more to say than "yes".

No one's saying those answers aren't allowed, the question is whether or not they should be awarded a point towards contests. >_>

They are no more or less valid than explained answers, except where explanations are required, such as "why" questions. I think it should be up to the question asker.

While I agree with you Fermat, I believe that the concern stems from a flood of such answers at the end of each month. It doesn't bother me, but others find it distressing. As I noted above, perhaps we should be limited to one answer per minute.

I guess so, but as long as it's pretty high.

"Does the Moon orbit the Earth?"

Simple answer: yes.

Long answer: "You have asked if the moon, our jolly nighttime friend, orbits ol' Terra Firma. The answer, my friend, is definitely there for all of us to see. When we look up at the sky, that glorious panoply of Heaven...."

It's not necessary. Some questions don't require an essay to answer the question, and some questions are just opinions.
