What's wrong with my earphones?

Parasyte: They were working fine yesterday, but when I tried using them today, the right earbud won't work. I tried another pair of headphones, and it DID work, meaning it's not the player that's the problem.
There are no visible tears or cuts in the wiring, and I haven't done anything that would make it break.

It's a pair of these, by the way.

You most likely have a short in the wiring. Even though a person takes good care of their electronics they will become damaged with time. Wiring is just something that goes bad eventually. It is not something that you can prevent.

I got these for Christmas '09.

Do you possibly take the earphones and twist them around the device whenever it is not in use?

Just the mere act of putting them on and taking them off weakens the connections. They could be made better, but then you wouldn't need to buy new ones.

I do twist them around the device, but it's small, and I've been doing this with all other MP3 players I've had, and haven't had any problems.

Yeah, see the smaller the device means more curve and strain that gets put on the wire and cord every time that it gets twisted up. Also, I would like to point out that certain amounts of quality are guaranteed with products. But, there is always room for error in which this particular piece didn't meet up with the typical standards, thus the seemingly early failure in the wiring.
