Are we alone in the universe?

bobbonew: Its the most timeless of questions whether extraterrestrials exist in our universe. According to Stephen Hawking, the answer to this question is a definitive yes due to the vastness of space. There is no right or wrong answer to this question, but we know you all have an opinion.

I completely agree with Stephen Hawking. The sheer size of the universe is just enormous, unimaginable to the mere human. In the whole scheme of things, the human race is nothing when compared to the entirety of the universe. I think if we can realize that then we can open our eyes to the possibility of aliens. Humans were more than likely a random occurrence, and I just can't believe that other random mutations of matter and elements didn't form other aliens.

On the subject of whether they are hostile or not is huge. I believe Hawking states that they are more than likely hostile, forming an elitism attitude as time goes on. I am always an optimist so I would hope for the other side that they wouldn't be. But who knows. Time will only tell if any of this is true.

I personally believe in aliens. About their hostility, I actually believe they'll be peaceful. If they already know that we exist, then the chances are great that they're peaceful. Earth has so many natural resources, if the aliens wanted some, we wouldn't stand a chance against their weapons. If we ever find them, the fact that we're still alive means they're more than likely peaceful, since their technology will be far greater than ours, considering they find us, first.

So many stars, so many possibilities. The sad part is that there may be billions of civilizations but the distances are so vast between stars and galaxies that we may never know of them. IF there are any close by, and they develop the capability to reach us, I imagine that they would be peaceful. Why expend so much in time and resources just to make war?

I do believe there are other "life forms" out there somewhere. Be it aliens or maybe even creatures that are similar to humans. I'd like to think they would be peacful but it's not them I'd worry about. It's humans that would try to exploit them for science. And I agree with Parasyte, we wouldn't stand a chance against them if it came down it.

My question would be whether they are sentient or not. I don't think it would be necessary for them to be "like us" but some form of consciousness and intelligence would be a requirement to even entertain a human concept like peace.

I think that it is too much to simply say that other life-forms exist based on probability and chance. There are such things as anomalies. Is it more conceited to think that we remain alone in the universe, or possibly the desire to not be truly alone makes us wish desperately that we are not the only ones.

As of right now, I do not think there is any life other than that on planet Earth, whether primitive or intelligent.

In 1978 I went to a Phillies game with a friend of mine. A bunch of us noticed a circle of lights directly above the stadium with one light in the center of all the others. At first we thought it was a constellation but then they moved. As we watched these lights trying to figure out what they were, more and more people noticed them. Within a couple of minutes the lights shot out in different directions but stayed in a circular formation. They held there for a moment and then flew off at an amazing speed. By this time there were a lot of us scratching our heads over what we had just witnessed.

I thought about it later. Wouldn't that be a great place to observe us? In an open stadium - a bunch of crazy humans getting all excited. I'll never forget that night.

What do u think about are place in the whole universe? DO u believe in the big bang theory? Do you think we will ever have the capability to travel backward or forward in time? What will our civilization be like in ten thousand years?
