Is gaming educational?

BadWolf: Of course there are games that try combine education whilst still maintaining the "fun factor" of games, but when we seriously think about it, are games such as Pokémon, Halo and Ratchet and Clank really subliminally teaching us things about every day life? About nuggets of information that may prove useful to us in the future?

YES! Scribblenauts could increase your vocabulary. Freakin' Brain Age or Big Brain Academy are MEANT to make you smarter, plus I once played a game my grandmother got for my sister when she was in the hospital. It was either a first or third person shooter, I can't remember, and it was about this girl inside a body, trying to destroy infections and junk. It was supposed to teach kids with terminal illnesses about the diseases they have.

Really what I was trying to get at is that; are games that aren't made for educational value more education than we initially realise? You wouldn't associate games such as Halo and Ratchet and Clank to have much, if any, educational value.
