Have you had an experience with lucid dreaming?

bobbonew: Ever had a dream where you realized you were dreaming, and were able to take full control of your reality? Welcome to the world of lucid dreaming where only an exclusive crowd can gain entrance regularly. Fortunately enough, almost everyone has had at least one experience with this phenomenon, and we'd love to hear your thoughts on it.

Every once and a while I have an experience with lucid dreaming, and unfortunately I just can't do it on command like some people. I love the ones where I'm a superhero saving the world, and ultimately the ones where I can fly!

I know for a fact you can train yourself to lucid dream more often, but identifying recurring themes in your dreams (with a dream journal), and training yourself to do a mental check every time you encounter those themes in the waking world. That then gives you the ability to do the mental check in the dream state, and thus realize your dreaming in a dream.

I just read 'The history of last night's dream' by Rodger Kamenetz. Since then, I have been more aware of the paths my dreams take and how I might be able to unravel a few things within my dreams. Like Bobbo, every once in a while I am aware I am dreaming - I keep a pad and pencil by my bed to record what I remember when I wake. Since I have done that I have much better recall. Dreams are so amazing to me. Sometimes I can think of someone before I fall asleep and have them appear in my dreams - I love that.

This has happened to me once that I can recall. It was pretty cool. However I had heard that one can induce a lucid dream by tricking your brain into thinking you're asleep by laying completely still with your eyes closed when you're tired while staying awake. Do this for about half an hour and apparently you start dreaming and can freely control the things you do throughout. However, I hardly dream anymore these days, at least, none that I can remember.

Eh, reality is more important than dreaming. I do not care to take that much interest in my dreams. After all, these will only ever amount to being just a dream.

Of course they will. But there's no harm to it.

I never claimed there was no harm. But you ignore my point, which is that there can be nothing had in dreaming whether lucid or not.

Honestly I'd rather experience a reality I can control rather than just lay there for 8 hours every night.

And tbh I have had ideas from a dream that have carried over to my waking state. Some even say that in your dream if you see yourself walking into a room with the expectation of seeing a new outfit, there will be one there. Creativity just sparks into existence. (That exact scenario has happened to me before).

Yeah, ideas can be carried over from dreams. A idea carried over from a dream that is under control is an idea that can be formed while you are awake. I think controlling your dreams is not how it ought to be.

I would prefer not to say yes or no, more out of confusion than anything else. I seems that I have woken up and have felt as though I had some manner of control over the events that had taken place during my dreams; but I will be the first to admit that I do not typically remember them past the first few minutes after waking up. Also, despite anything related to interesting experiences, as far as snippets that I can remember, my dreams consist of little more than average, albeit unpleasant, situations that I could easily encounter throughout the natural course of my existence. Furthermore, this usually is the case.
