If you could travel to another planet, but never return to Earth, would you do it?

bobbonew: It takes a lot of money, time and resources to travel to other planets in our solar system. A lot of talk over the years has been over whether we should send a crew of astronauts on a one way mission to Mars. They would not be able to return, and would live out the rest of their lives on our sister planet.

If you were offered the chance to be a part of that crew, would you do it?

I would never do it. Sure its an experience in and of itself, but that is such an eternity (your life). I pondered this when I first heard about this a few years ago; its really a mind bender.

If that planet was terriformed and livable without all that colony, space suit junk, then yeah, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

No, unless it was a wilderness paradise, with all sorts of wonderful things to discover. Sitting in a bubble on Mars for 50 years has no appeal.

Being alone is my worst fear. No way on earth I would actually take this job.

I'd probably end up going insane......but sure, why not? =D

I would not. I believe space travel and exploration are a waste of time, research, and resources. I believe that we should be focusing on fixing the problems that we are facing here on earth instead.

I never thought of that. You've got a good point, there.

Or we could use space exploration as a way to send people away from those problems. Running away from a problem has always worked in the past, right? =D
