Yes, but even things like the Hubble are part of exploration, a step to the ultimate quest. They say that by 2020, we may have the telescopic ability to have a pretty good actual view of Earth-like planets. What if these views show us planets that are green and blue or even clearly harbor intelligent life? If they are close enough, maybe they could be explored someday. But we would need the technology, and that can only be developed incrementally.
My greatest ....regret? sorrow? is that we are all the last people who will live short life spans, so we will only get to see major space exploration developments through yellowed, cataract-blinded eyes. That is, if we are even still alive.
