Yes iOS 5 will run on iPhone 3GS.

There was a rumor going around earlier this year that iOS 5 would be too powerful to run on iPhone 3GS, however Apple completely destroyed that rumor when they announced the official list of supported devices.

These devices include iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS, iPad, iPad 2, and iPod Touch 3rd and 4th generations.

While that is the case however there are a few features that seems to be missing in iOS 5 on the iPhone 3GS. Tabbed browsing seems to be missing from the Safari web browser, however this could just be that it's available only on the iPad. Additionally several camera features are missing like red eye reduction, magic wand, and cropping.

There may be more items missing at this point, or it may be buggy because iOS 5 is only in developers beta stage.

Hope not much is left out. Though I plan to upgrade to the new iPhone this September, it would be great to see most features on the iPhone 3GS.

Tabbed browsing is missing from the 3GS.

Also location based reminders.
