Does a human eye really see things upside down? And a part of our eye flips it right side up?

That is correct, the lens of the eye focuses light (or what you're looking at) onto the retina, the image is then flipped right-side up across the back of the retina and finally the retina carries the light signals to the brain via the optic nerve at the back of the eye.

Yes, all complex eyes in nature do this.
It's not part of the eye that flips the image. The flipping is done in the brain.

All lenses invert the image. Have you ever veiwed a solar eclipse through a projection? The brain then flips it back.

The brain does not correct the image. It is not necesarry. I'll try to explain. Image yourself hanging from the earth with you feet on the ground and your head in the sky as the Aussies do. If your eye flips the image you see, everything looks perfectly normal. The real world is upside down! Imagine a space traveller observing someone at the northpole and the south pole. The space traveller sees one person standing on the earth and the other one hanging from it. Both persons on the poles see everything normal. It might be that the brain does turn the image, but it would not make a difference, and we wouldn't know, and it would therefore be, from an evolutionary point of view, a waste of time. The simplest explanation is that the real world is upside down. It's hard to explain, but if you think about this some more you might see it this way ;-)

continuing... Try this: imagine that your brain doesnt flip the image. What would be the difference in what you see? What would you see in you brain doesn't flip the image and you're looking at your feet? you would still see the ground under your feet and the sky above your head.
