What is the best way to hook up your laptop to your computer?

(Guest): S-Video, HDMI...say what?!
I'm looking for the easiest (read: least amount of tangled cords) and most cost effective way to go about connecting your laptop up to your television to use as a second/bigger screen to view non-HD downloaded content.

If you're viewing non-HD content, then HDMI won't matter. Most laptops have VGA which is probably the least expensive cord. Just use that.

That is, if the TV isn't so new that it doesn't have VGA anymore. In that case, you would need the HDMI cable. They might have discontinued VGA on TVs now that HDMI is so popular. The laptop I'm on now has HDMI out.
