I read somewhere that chewing gum can help.
I'm not sure of that, though.

I have heard that gum does work.

Chop the onions close to an open flame on your stove. I learned that trick from watching Martha Stewart and it works great, just be sure not to set anything on fire.

You can also run hot water in the sink, and chop the onions next to or in the sink. The steam binds to the vapors and weighs them down or something-- I'm a psychologist, not a chemist, so I don't really understand how these things work.

If you have contacts it doesn't make them water which is nice. Or you can wear sunglasses or goggles!

Cut them underwater. It works.

Not according to a Food Network show. The food tech that did that still had their eyes water a ton. I've tried that as well with no luck too. If I remember correctly, the problem with that is that it works if the onions stay underwater... but they float.

The best way is to chill the onions in a freezer before cutting them. =] I can't remember the name of the show or I would say. They also tested if ginger helped motion sickness or not in the same episode.
