Certain types may be but overall I don't think it is completely up to your hereditary. That doesn't mean that you don't have a lower chance if your family has a high cancer rate.
More relatives with cancer = higher chance overall.

Does it come down to a specific type of cancer? For example, say my grandmother had colon cancer, my father had skin cancer and my grandfather had something else cancer. Does this increase my chances of lung cancer as a smoker?

I don't think diseases are picky in where they settle but it is all based on tendencies. Cancer starts in a particular area if cells begin to build up there, and once they build up they face more and more pressure which causes some to break off and spread the cancer.

But smoking alone increases your chances of lung cancer :/

Yes cancer is hereditary. It runs threw all of us. You just have to accept that its going to happen to you.

A science teacher back in high school once said we all have cancer. The difference is who has it worse.

Deep.

I'm not convinced it is hereditary.
Nor am I convinced it is mandatory.

I have heard several doctors speaking about seeing good results with slowing and/or overcoming cancers/tumors by changing the diets of the diagnosed person and fasting.
