So my answer only comes from using the Microsoft brand of Operating Systems. Keep in mind I would love to try the Linux branch one day and know that I will, but at this point in time it's not really possible. I have a few computers, but each computer has Windows on it due to the fact that the people who use those computers only know Windows; bit of a bummer but eh.

So anyway, my favorite above all would be Windows Vista. Primary reason? The admin user control feature. I'm quite knowledgeable in the Windows branch, so many of my family members and friends do ask me for help in fixing their computers and making them run faster. For the ones who consent, I do NOT let them have access to administrator options. Kind of funny, but it prevents them from making horrendous changes to their computers. 99% of them only use the computer for the internet anyway, so I disable admin and disable Internet Explorer in exchange for firefox. My "courtesy calls" to come and fix computers are now almost non-existant. (Whereas before it was an irritating monthly event).

I would love to hear opinions and feedback from those who choose non-Microsoft OS's.

I like Windows Vista. Home Premium, to be exact.

I enjoy both the Mac and Windows operating systems. They both have their strengths and weaknesses so I don't think there can ever be a quantified 'best' operating system. I enjoy Macs for their ease of interface and their better media manipulation. I enjoy Windows primarily because of familiarity and for games.

Currently I run both operating systems on my Macbook and have had no problems so far. Both Windows and Mac working together. It's beautiful.

As a side note, I find it disgusting how some people so adamantly defend each operating system to erroneous degrees half out of ignorance and half out of fanaticism and even stoop so low as to simply insulting the other systems.

I love the Windows Operating Systems. I have literally grown with them, and I have used this machines since my country only had access to Windows 95.

My definitive favorite OS? Just like Bobbo, I love Vista, and I prefer it over the XP OSes. Not saying XP was bad or anything, but Vista is just better for my needs, although nothing is error-free.

I am dying to test Windows 7 as well. It looks very nice, and an awesome change to what Vista is now.

I would love to test the Linux and Mac OSes someday, and I probably will, Linux at least, I am sure I can put it on my Laptop. The Mac... I have a CD for it, but I don't know if I can put it on my laptop, heh.

Don't put the Mac OSX on your laptop. Non apple laptops running the Mac OS is just asking for trouble.

I like Windows Operating Systems. They are easy to use and have all the applications that you would need (aside from Garage Band :(). Vista is also my favorite, nothing bad is really there but Win 7 is looking great!

I have never really liked Macs because they have no right click and they sucked when I had to use them in 4/5/6 grade.

Out of my experiences, I would say Windows, primary Vista Ultimate. It just looks pretty and works well for me.

BUT I am in love with Linux, Ubuntu to be exact. Its free, and you have WAYYY more control over just about anything.

See i'm definitely a bit biased just like Chad mentioned below. I'm pretty skilled with computers, yet everytime I attempt to grab Linux/Ubuntu it just seems like intense foreign language even trying to simply download it. I know that's because it has to be the 100% correct version for your computer; I just wish they made it slightly easier.

Yeah, since there are many different versions of Linux, there are aimed to be at many different computers. Ubuntu is pretty good at working on most computers though. Just request a free CD and it should work like a charm.

I'm enjoying Windows Vista Home Premium more than I have any other OS, so for now, I'd have to say it. Never tried to any form of Linux though, so it is sort of biased. ;(

Alright, adding in a new answer. I love Windows 7. I have a release of build 7057, and I wouldn't mind using it as my primary OS. :)

You'll definitely need to chat me up on MSN about it, I love experimenting with new software. The shaking of the window to close all others seems interesting, but dunno if that'll work too much for me as I maximize all windows. Really do wanna check it out though.

try what Chiggins was telling me about yesterday, run it as a Virtual Machine or something like that. I want to know how the resources are managed then!
