What is wrong with my car?

Chicken Nugget: So my car hates me. It will randomly cut out on me whenever I am at stop lights/signs or basically whenever it is in a slowed/stopped position. Do you know what might be the cause? I heard water in the gas tank but I do not think that is the problem.

Check your oil first. Is it low? If it is, fill it up or change it if it's due. Check where the oil is leaking from. Could be a leaky gasket.

Is your check engine light on? In this case, you should probably take it to the shop.

Are there any other fluids leaking? You should probably check those out as well. Leaking anti-freeze probably wouldn't cause your car to cut off, but very low trans fluid could.

What kind of car is it? I had a similar problem with mine. 2004 Pontiac Grand Am. It was a loose connection from the cars computer to the engine.

It is a 92 Aurora Oldsmobile. It does have a little computer thingy in it. I suppose that could be the problem. If so, then it won't be so expensive to fix. Right?

If its the same problem, no, it will not be expensive. I just had to repair a wire connecting the engine and the computer. It was maybe $50, i cant remember but it wasn't that much.

o.o Computer repair/replacement however is not inexpensive. It's ridiculous. It's a couple grand just for a few sensors and not the whole thing. Does it make a weird click sound before it shuts off? If it does, that's the computer.

At that point, you might as well get another car.

It's not something simple like stalling if it's manual, right?

A simple fuel additive would cure water in the gas tank.Lucas makes a good fuel treatment it's not to expensive and may clean the offending crap out of the system. When the engine stalls do you hear a click under the dash? If so it may be the computer. This happened to a Mitsubishi that I had. You could get a replacement from a junk yard or used parts website. One other question, after the car stalls, how hard is it to restart?
