Instaprint - Location and Hash Tag Based Photo Booth

You may remember reading about the quirky but captivating company named Breakfast when we had the chance to interview Andrew Zolty about Precious the Bicycle and the Conan O'Brien Blimp. Well they're at it again with Instaprint, a location and hash tag based photo booth. Utilizing the extremely popular iOS only application Instagram and its API, the Instaprint box searches for images that are tagged with a certain hash tag. Seconds later after finding matches, a Polaroid type print is produced (where the ink is from the paper and not the printer).

We can see this being wildly useful for events like TED, BlizzCon, or even an Apple Keynote where you would then be able to see the event from numerous locations, views, and access levels. Breakfast is expected to unveil Instaprint March 12th, 2011 at the SXSW 2011 Good Capitalist Party. Until then, they've setup a live internet demo where you simply need to tag your image #instaprint and they'll print it out in their office - live!

Instaprint Tweet with Hashtag
We of course had to try it out, so we quickly snapped a picture of our resident Jackrussel-Pug Lola. We tagged it "The best dog ever! #instaprint" and approved its posting to Twitter. Seconds later it was up on @Questional on Twitter (jump to tweet) and also uploaded on instagr.am.

Unfortunately, we weren't able to get a quick screenshot of our photo being printed out on the live telecast, but you can see below another image printing live:

What have we learned?

  1. Remember to take Instaprint with you to your next big event.

  2. Breakfast sure as hell knows how to unveil a new product.

If I was a fame hungry celebrity this would also probably be my best friend - just saying. ^^

Gotta love the little toys Breakfast points out; so very lucky I found out about them on Engadget last year. You know their team probably has the best meetings and lunch hours. =D

You're actually a celebrity in my English class. I went to a book signing yesterday, and when I told them that I met a famous person, more than one person asked, "Was it Robert?"

We're going over poetry in English. So far every single poem I've written has been about you, or your website.
